"Do not become a disciple of one who praises himself, in case you learn pride instead of humility." --St. Mark the Ascetic

"A sign of self-esteem is an ostentatious manner; of pride, anger and scorn of others." --St. Thalassios the Libyan

"Don’t wage your Christian struggle with sermons and arguments, but with true love". --St. Porphyrios

"In order to fulfill the commandments of Christ, you must know them! Read the Holy Gospel, penetrate its spirit and make it the rule of your life." --St. Nikon of Optina

On December 9, the Orthodox Church commemorates the Holy Conception of the Most-Holy Birthgiver-of-God and Ever-Virgin Mary by the Holy Righteous Forebears-of-God, Joachim and Anna.

The St. Panteleimon Ministry serves senior living communities (nursing homes, assisted living, independent living, memory care, etc.) throughout Northeast Ohio. Prior to March 2020, we frequently held Orthodox group prayer services, like the one in this video, at various locations in our area. From 2010-2020 the ministry held more than 2,600 services for those who cannot get to church on a regular basis. By the Grace of God, in-person services with our residents have resumed as of October 20, 2021. We pray that this form of ministry will gradually increase and ultimately equal or exceed what we were able to do prior to the pandemic. Regardless of the status of the in-person ministry, it is our intention to continue providing prayer service videos for our residents, shut-ins with computer access, and to the general public.

Words from the Saints -- December 2, 2021

Gerald Largent

"The body, being only the temporal garment of the soul, is perishable, and does not constitute the true life of the man. The true life is the spiritual life. If you rend, if you destroy the man's garment, still he himself remains alive; so also after the slaying, after the death, the corruption of the body, the soul remains alive. Let us then chiefly care for the soul, for its salvation!" --St. John of Kronstadt

"When one man helps another by word or deed, let them both recognize in this the grace of God. He who does not understand this will come under the power of him who does." --St. Mark the Ascetic

"We cannot live in such a way that no one grieves or offends us, for the Apostle Luke writes: we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God (Acts 14:22), and bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ (Gal. 6:2). Let us therefore ask that we may bear sorrows with self-reproach and humility and not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good, and with the Prophet say: With them that hate peace I was peaceable (Psalm 119:6)." --St. Hilarion of Optina

"The mercy of God is hidden in sufferings not of our choice; and if we accept such sufferings patiently, they bring us to repentance and deliver us from everlasting punishment." --St. Mark the Ascetic

"God does not forsake you. It is because he wishes to increase your glory that oftentimes he permits you to fall sick. Keep up your courage so that you may also hear him say: 'Do you think I have dealt with you otherwise than that you may be shown to be just?'" --St. John Chrysostom

"Yet you are not the sole author of the evil, but there is also another most wicked prompter, the devil. He indeed suggests, but does not get the mastery by force over those who do not consent." --St. Cyril of Jerusalem

"If you say something evil about your brother or sister, even if it is true, your soul suffers an unhealable wound. You can reveal the sins of another only when the sole intention in your heart is the benefit of the soul of the sinner." --St. Nikon of Optina

"If you cannot close the mouth of one who reviles his brother, at least avoid conversation with him."--St. Isaac the Syrian
